You know that saying—do what you love and the $$ will follow?
Well, I say: do what you love/follow your passion and it will lead you to God, your people, your place, and your purpose—the things we really need in our lives.
And, yes. Provision comes when we do what we were made to do.
But what does this have to do with loneliness?
You see that in the list I wrote “people.”
Following your passion and purpose will lead you to your people.
People you will work with, minister with (and to), and have fun with. Because they will be likeminded souls. (See: “Your People”)
If you aren’t in the right place yet, you might be experiencing loneliness. Or if you are the only Christian in your workplace or classroom you may feel isolated and different and very alone.
But we are NEVER alone. Jesus promised that He would never leave or forsake us:
…For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Hebrews 13:8
I know that even though that should be MORE than enough to assuage our feelings of loneliness, it often isn’t.
We want some flesh and blood companionship.
And God KNOWS that! He created us that way! For fellowship and relationship. (See: “Community“)
So know that asking for friends and companions is a prayer that God longs to answer in your life.
If it hasn’t happened yet in your life, it could be about timing.
It could be about Him needing to do a work in you so that you are ready to be in relationship.
Because relationships can be difficult and we can lose ourselves in them.
- We can become people pleasers.
- We can make the person an idol in our life.
- We can find ourselves in a codependent relationship which means we have excessive emotional or psychological reliance on another person.
- We can end up with stunted growth and even miss our calling if we aren’t watchful.
So take this time of loneliness to seek God about any areas He might want you to shore up in your life.
Make sure your foundation in Him is strong.
Get to know yourself better, so that you will strong in who God created you to be.
If led, begin stepping out and doing some things that you love whether it’s a sport, book club, cooking class, Bible study, hike, church outreach, etc. It’s highly likely you’ll find some kindred spirits when you do this.
And keep praying that He will direct your paths to the right place and people for you. He will answer this prayer because it is according to His will.
Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10
The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps. Proverbs 16:9
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you. Proverbs 32:8
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11
