NOT. TOO. OLD!!!
Age: 70.
Name: Louise Montgomery.
Dream: To open a home for the homeless.
Money: $50,000, life’s savings. Not a lot of $$ compared to the dream.
I read about Louise in one of my devotionals. I read that she was told that she was too old and didn’t have enough money to fulfill her dream.
But God-dreams have a way of opening doors and windows of provision and miracles.
God always provides what you need when you are faithful to Him and the great cause He planted within you. ~ Matthew Barnett, “The Cause Within You”
In this case, Louise ended up purchasing a dilapidated 14-room Victorian structure that had open doors and windows. Literally. And a lot of other things that needed repair.
But Louise and her husband were determined.
She had an idea to have inmates from a local jail help restore the building.
{ How resourceful and wonderful is that? }
She went to local churches and received monetary contributions and necessities such as clothing, food, blankets, and furniture.
On Christmas Eve, 1985, The Friendship House opened its doors (Kinda like God does, right? Opens doors!!) to serve its “guests.”
Louise experienced the most fulfilling years of her life meeting the practical needs of people who were broken and cast aside and, through her love, she introduced them to Christ.
The Friendship House, located in Portland, Maine is a haven for men recovering from addictions. Later, a second home was opened: The Faith House, for mothers and children in need.
For many years both of these homes have been places of restoration for thousands of homeless and hurting people.
This is all because of the dream God placed in ONE WOMAN’S HEART!
{ Take that in to YOUR heart! }
And she was not a young. She was a 70-year-old woman without the necessary resources for such a big dream and undertaking.
Please be inspired and encouraged to know that you are never too old and your dream does matter!
Keep believing.
Keep taking steps of faith.
Your help will come.
Doors will open.
But you have to take those steps of faith.
